Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What kind of projects do participants complete at HiArch?
A: HiArch introduces students to multiple ways of working by hand and on the computer, so each participant has the opportunity to experiment with a variety of architectural techniques. Specific exercises change from year to year. In 2015, for example, projects included hand sketching, line drawing with rulers and compasses, working on 2D and 3D forms in Rhino and Illustrator, constructing paper models, and the conceptual design of a small building. To view work from HiArch 2015, visit the HiArch Facebook page at www.facebook.com/UICHiArch.
For reasons related to training and safety, students at HiArch do not have direct access to the School's 3D printers and laser cutters. However, students are given detailed tours of digital facilities, and these technologies are incorporated into the assignments in other ways.
Q: I am a student at a high school outside the United States. Can I still attend?
A: Yes! The registration process is no different for international students. However, please be advised that the School of Architecture cannot provide visas or housing to students from outside the country.
