In attempting to capture the dynamism of urbanity for architecture, the studio confronts the contemporary dilemma of the public interior and exterior, from the pragmatics of program to the imagination of new forms of collective association. The studio explores the programmatic possibilities of a large health-related public building and campus that engages multiple edges (city grid, infrastructure, park, and lakefront). Looking to health, from surgery to rehabilitation to preventative lifestyles, the studio engages multiple activities and programs ranging from the hospital to the garden. Interior and exterior are explored both through the physical materials that control and define activities as well as the physiology of the human body itself that engages and senses those spaces.
