Visiting Assistant Professor Abigail Chang recently opened a solo exhibition, Reflections of a Room, at Volume Gallery in Chicago. The exhibition features eight newly commissioned objects that borrow form and proportion from familiar mirrored surfaces in both domestic and public spheres. These objects imitate the reflectiveness of darkened windows, blurring the distinction between perception and reflection and asking the viewer to consider their own physical presence.
Reflections of a Room builds on Chang’s previous explorations of the ubiquity of screens in contemporary life in Skeuomorphic Screens, an installation at last year’s Seoul Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism.
