Transfer students may apply to either the BS in Architecture or the BA in Architectural Studies. For the BS, transfer students should expect to spend four years to degree, regardless of transferrable credit, due to the studio sequencing for the degree. Students may submit a portfolio to be considered for advanced placement, but this is not guaranteed. For the BA, core requirements total 60 credit hours, intended to be completed in 2 years. Transfer students with fewer than 60 credits will need more than 2 years to complete the BA degree.
For fullest consideration for transfer admission into the School of Architecture, a minimum 2.75 GPA is required (though it will not guarantee admission). Admission to the School of Architecture is determined by the applicant’s academic record and availability of space in the program. Availability is based on current enrollment and varies by year.
Application Requirements
Please see the College of Architecture, Design, and the Arts website for application instructions and requirements. All applicants must submit a supplemental personal statement of interest. This should include an indication of why you’re interested in UIC and why architecture specifically.
Optional Portfolio Requirement for Transfer Students
Transfer applicants to the Bachelor of Science in Architecture program who seek advanced placement in the undergraduate architecture studio sequence are required to submit a portfolio of creative work as part of their application. Refer to Portfolio Requirements for guidelines on content and format. Applicants who do not seek advanced placement are not required to submit a portfolio.
