The Fall 2024 TryArch Workshop will take place on Saturday, November 2 from 10am-6pm.
What is TryArch?
TryArch is an intensive one-day workshop in which participants learn a bit about what it means to study architecture, experience a studio environment, and build content for a portfolio.
Where does TryArch take place?
The workshop is held at the School of Architecture (845 W Harrison St). Participants will also have the opportunity to see the graduate studio and meet the Graduate Academic Advisor Annemarie Furlong. The registration fee includes lunch and all necessary supplies / workshop materials.
Who teaches TryArch?
TryArch is taught by the School of Architecture faculty Adjunct Assistant Professors Alaina Griffin and Cody Scheuller.
This iteration of UIC SoA’s TryArch will investigate the implementation (or lack thereof) of systematic architectural frameworks and what fills, covers, subverts and disrupts them. Capitalizing on this dichotomy, students will work between two-dimensional and three-dimensional media, hard and soft materials, and integrated and fragmented forms to produce new systems of interruption to organizing space.
Who can attend?
Anyone! No previous experience is required. The workshop is intended for adults or current undergraduate students who want to learn more about what architecture is all about, get to know the School of Architecture at UIC, or create content for a grad school admission portfolio. Anyone looking for a more in-depth experience should also consider YArch, the School's month-long summer intensive design workshop. High school-aged students should consider HiArch, our summer program for high school students.
