Three School of Architecture faculty have been honored with 2019 Design Excellence Awards by the Chicago chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA).
Professor Dan Wheeler’s practice, Wheeler Kearns Architects, received a Citation of Merit in the Distinguished Building Award category for the Ravine House, a single-story residence for two conservationists. Wheeler Kearns’s Mansueto High School, a charter school on a formerly industrial brownfield site in Brighton Park, was also recognized in the category.
The Yuanjiang City Master Plan, by Professor Sarah Dunn’s firm, UrbanLab, was recognized with an Urban Design Award. The project proposes a resilient infrastructure around freshwater in Yuanjiang, a growing city in China’s Hunan Province.
Associate Professor Clare Lyster’s practice, CLUAA, was awarded in the Urban Design category for Winterwaterway, a proposal that explores the adaptive reuse of the Erie Canal through a modular recreational landscape dedicated to winter activities.
