Joint MArch/MAD-Crit Degree

100-128 credits
UIC Graduate Catalog

This is a three- or four-year program, depending on prior education and MArch program placement. However, most students are placed on the four-year track. Students take the bulk of the MArch coursework in the first three years of the program with a few MAD-Crit seminars and electives throughout. The fourth and final year is focused primarily on remaining MAD-Crit requirements.

This structure allows students to move through the MArch program with their MArch cohort while getting the full studio culture experience. In the final two years, students become a part of the MAD-Crit cohort. Typical course plans for each track can be found below.

Joint MSArch/MAD-Crit Degree

72 credits

This is a two-year program that may require one summer course. Students take the bulk of the MS coursework, including the two required design studios, in the first year of the program while beginning the required MAD-Crit seminars. They finish the bulk of the MAD-Crit courses in their second year. Finishing the program in two years (or 4 semesters) requires a very heavy course load. Some students may opt to take one course in the summer. A typical course plan can be found below.
